21Shares Introduces Metaverse ETP Using Sandbox's SAND Token
21Shares, a Swiss-based issuer of exchange-traded crypto products (ETPs), has launched a new instrument focused on the token SAND to bring The Sandbox's metaverse and gaming platform to investors.
21Shares is finding its way into the metaverse
ETPs are popular for institutional investors investing in cryptocurrencies and blockchain projects. The Sandbox ETP (SAND) will be listed on the BX Swiss Exchange with a total expense ratio (TER) of 2.5 percent. It will track the performance of SAND, the native token of The Sandbox, a community-driven gaming platform.SAND is the issuer's second foray into the metaverse following the February launch of 21Shares Decentraland ETP (MANA), which offers investors exposure to a virtual reality platform that monetizes digital land. The launch is the 30th cryptocurrency ETP offered by 21Shares, which currently has nearly $3 billion in assets under management (AUM).
What is The Sandbox?
The Ethereum-based Sandbox platform is a decentralized virtual environment where members can monetize assets and gaming experiences. Within the Sandbox ecosystem, SAND is used for all transactions and interactions. The currency, which has a limited supply of three billion tokens, was developed on the Ethereum blockchain.Investors can benefit from the growth of The Sandbox through the ETP, but the launch comes at a time when projects related to the metaverse are underperforming. For example, SAND is down 63% from its all-time high in November, and MANA, the currency of Decentraland, is down 59% from its peak, according to CoinGecko.
