Adidas partners with Bored Ape Yacht Club, Gmoney and PUNKS Comic
The official Twitter accounts of The Bored Ape Yacht Club, gmoney and PUNKS comic have tweeted images suggesting a partnership with Adidas.
Is Adidas looking to launch merchandise?
Adidas has not officially commented on the three partnerships, but it seems like the famous brand is planning to create merchandise in collaboration with The Bored Ape Yacht Club, gmoney and Punks comic. It's not an unusual collaboration, as it's known that the NFT project Punks comic is working on a new comic dedicated to the Bored Apes. In total 8 Bored Apes had been chosen to play a role in the comic during a competition dubbed "Ape Madness". In addition to the partnership with BAYC and Punks comic, The logo of the famous NFT collector gmoney is also featured in the image, and he also shared an image himself on Twitter confirming the collaboration. It's unclear what his role in the partnership will be, but the home page of his website features the words "Stay Tuned," which could indicate that he's dropping something himself in the near future.In July, the NFT influencer and investor Beanie had already hinted at a partnership between Punks comic and Adidas. A lot of the Twitter posts about this seem to be deleted, but as you can see in this tweet from @0xBender it was already a topic on Twitter around the time. Beanie also commented on the partnership today and stated that "Punks comic merch sales proceeds go to the $PUNKS token treasury. " This means that if Adidas is going to create merchandise in collaboration with Punks comic, a part of the revenue will find its way back into the project.
Adidas wasn't joking about the adiVerse
The partnerships show that Adidas was not playing around when it announced it was joining The Sandbox ecosystem. The company confirmed that it is planning to create a so-called "adiVerse" in The Sandbox and introduced a POAP (Proof of Attendance Protocol) in its Adidas Confirmed app. In addition, the company recently confirmed a partnership with Coinbase. On Thursday, an Adidas spokesperson commented on this partnership and told CityAM that the Coinbase partnership is part of Adidas' strategy to gain a foothold in the Metaverse. Still, The sporting goods manufacturing giant did not disclose many details.Something that always comes back in each partnership is that Adidas has decided to remain mysterious about what all these partnerships will mean for the brand. It is still unclear what the partnership between Adidas, The Bored Ape Yacht Club, Punks comic, and Gmoney will result in, and the same goes for the partnership with Coinbase. What is clear is that the company is taking the Metaverse seriously and is heavily experimenting with web3. A person that seems to be playing a large role in all these partnerships is Ben Mayor White. He is part of the Adidas team and describes his role at the company as "Voyaging in the Metaverse". On his Twitter it is shown that he owns a Bored Ape which he also uses as his internal avatar at Adidas.
