AMC Theatres finally starts accepting Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies
After months of teasing, AMC Theatres finally started accepting Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, including Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Ethereum. The CEO of the cinema chain took to Twitter to announce this new development.
AMC Theatres to pioneer crypto payments
AMC Theatres is one of the first cinema chains to accept cryptocurrencies after CEO Adam Aron teased this development through a number of crypto polls. In his Twitter post, the CEO also announced that the next cryptocurrency on the list is Dogecoin."We proudly now accept: drumroll, please… Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin. Also Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal. Incredibly, they already account for 14% of our total online transactions!" Dogecoin next, said Aron in his tweet.
Joining the traditional payment methods like Apple Pay and Google Pay, cryptocurrencies have already acquired 14% of all the transactions made to AMC Theatres. The CEO plans to accept its next cryptocurrency, Dogecoin, for payments as a number of Twitter fans voted in favor of this step.
Furthermore, around 140,000 Twitter fans voted in favor of AMC Theatres accepting DOGE tokens as payments. In another tweet, Aron also asked his Twitter followers if Shiba Inu, another meme token, should be accepted for payments at the theatres.
In August, AMC Theatres stated that they plan on integrating Bitcoin (BTC) as a payment medium for movie tickets by 2022. This announcement is a step closer to their goal. The firm already gave customers a green signal to buy gift cards through Bitpay using crypto like DOGE.
AMC's positive stance on cryptocurrencies sent a positive signal to the entire crypto community. On the other hand, SHIB fans are asking AMC to accept SHIB tokens too. In October, the token climbed new highs, conquering Dogecoin for a brief period, entering the list of top 10 tokens by market cap. However, this victory was short-lived for the Shiba Inu army as the token stands at 11th rank.
