Argentina's largest futures market is looking to become the first Latin American exchange to introduce regulated Bitcoin futures.

Currently, Argentines can trade Bitcoin futures on unregulated exchanges, but regulated Bitcoin futures are not available in the country. Argentina's regulator is considering the proposal, but it is not a priority request. The proposal also needs to be reviewed by the economy ministry and the central bank.Matba Rofex's plan calls for the new futures to operate like other cash-settled financial derivatives on electronic platforms. Bitcoin futures will require higher guarantees and lower open positions than others because they are considered riskier than standard derivatives. The proposal is that investors deposit a guarantee of about 30% or 40% of the contract value.

According to Chainalysis, a website specializing in cryptocurrencies and blockchain, Argentina is one of the nine countries with the highest adoption of cryptocurrencies.
