Australian baseball club Perth Heat has announced a partnership with Bitcoin payment service provider OpenNode to make payments in Bitcoin possible. The partnership will allow Perth Heat to pay professional players and staff in Bitcoin.
Perth Heat now calls itself "the Bitcoin baseball team"
The professional sports club will send and receive payments in Bitcoin through the Lightning Network. In addition, the partnership with OpenNode will allow the Perth Heat organization to accept Bitcoin payments for sponsorships, merchandise, and other revenue streams.Perth Heat has decided to now call itself "the Bitcoin baseball team." The announcement states that they are committed to spreading Bitcoin in the long run: "As part of this sporting world exclusive, Perth Heat will hodl Bitcoin on the club's balance sheet." The club has also offered Bitcoin-branded merchandise on its official website.

Perth Heat CEO Steven Nelkovski believes that the adoption of Bitcoin "will inspire others to embrace a monetary system that requires value creation to thrive." According to Patrick O'Sullivan, the club's "Chief Bitcoin Officer." "The Club has already established an initial position in BTC to secure its digital property rights on the world's most secure currency network and will continue to invest available capital in Bitcoin. On October 20, an Australian Senate committee called for a complete overhaul of crypto legislation and licensing. It looks like Australia is trying to position itself as a location with favourable laws in the hope of attracting more business.
