Bakkt becomes a publicly-listed company
Digital asset marketplace Bakkt is going public via a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) today. The company joins the likes of Coinbase to become a publicly listed crypto entity.In a press release over the weekend, the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the NYSE and the owner of Bakkt, said,
Bakkt Holdings, LLC, the digital asset marketplace founded in 2018, announced today that it has completed the previously announced business combination (the “Business Combination”) with VPC Impact Acquisition Holdings, a special purpose acquisition company (“VIH”) (Nasdaq: VIHAU, VIH and VIHAW).ICE said the combined company now operates as Bakkt Holdings, Inc., and Bakkt’s shares of Class A common stock and warrants will start trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbols “BKKT” and “BKKT WS.”

Bakkt first announced its plans to go public in January, when the digital asset trading firm was estimated to be worth about $2 billion. The company partnered with Starbucks in 2019 to enable consumers to buy coffee and other goods with bitcoin.More cryptocurrency companies are seeking to go public as the industry experiences rapid growth. Binance, USDC issuer Circle, Kraken and Blockchain.com are some of the crypto companies to recently declare interest in listing on the stock exchange.
