BAYC, OtherSide Discord groups hacked, loss of at least $260K
The creator of the two of the top NFT collections -Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and OtherSide, Yuga Labs, recently faced another devastating phishing attack on the Discord group, with attackers stealing more than 145 Ethereum (ETH) at the time of publication.
Yuga Labs faces another attack
The blockchain investigator and Crypto Twitter community member OKHotshot first warned the investors about the attack of two official Discord groups related to BAYC and OtherSide NFT collections.As per the investigation by OKHotshot, the compromise happened when the attacker hacked the Discord account of the community and social manager of Yuga Labs, Boris Vagner. After gaining access to Vagner’s account, scammers shared several phishing links from the account to the official Discord groups of BAYC, MAYC, and OtherSide.
Unaware of the ongoing scam that caused the loss of around $260,000, many individuals in the Discord groups fell for malicious links promising limited-quantity freebies for existing NFT holders.
Discord phishing attacks are becoming common
While the extent of the harm caused by this attack is unknown, recent crypto scams serve as a stark reminder to NFT owners to be careful when dealing with third-party platforms like social media and to confirm the details shared by others, even if they appear to be trustworthy.OKHotshot concluded the investigation by revealing the wallets that stored and transmitted the recently compromised NFTs. Notably, this is the second time BAYC had been hacked in two weeks. During an ongoing scam on May 25, a Proof Collective member lost 29 high-valued Ethereum-based Moonbirds NFTs for $1.5 million.
Notably, 70 Discord channels/accounts were exploited in May, including big names like RTFKT and OpenSea.
