Binance and Cuscapi Berhad have acquired a major stake in MX Global, one of the four Recognized Market Operators - Digital Asset Exchange licensed by the Securities Commission (SC) in Malaysia. With this acquisition, Binance increases its presence in the region to expand the sustainable growth of the crypto market in the Southeast Asia region.MX Global, on the other hand, plans to leverage the recent partnership and new capital injection to expand its market and become a leading liquidity center in the region. The capital injection will allow MX Global to increase brand awareness, hire more talent, and develop new functions within Malaysia's regulatory framework.

In 2021, Binance faced regulatory warnings and service restrictions from a large number of countries. It appears that Binance's recent acquisitions have focused mainly on regions where the exchange has struggled to meet regulatory requirements on its own. The crypto exchange curtailed its services in Malaysia back in July 2021 following an order from SC for non-compliance with regulatory laws.In Singapore, Binance also withdrew its application for a crypto license just a week after announcing an 18 percent stake in the private stock exchange, and it has also managed to do so in Thailand, where it re-entered the market in January 2022 through its partnership with Thailand's Gulf Energy Development PCL.
