BitFinex and OKex suffer DDoS attacks
Top cryptocurrency exchanges Bitfinex and OKex have suffered multiple denial-of-service attacks (DDoS). In such cases, a malicious party is attempting to make the services of the victim unavailable to customers by disrupting its servers. Luckily both have been solved and customers funds remain SAFU.
The CEO of OKex, Jay Hao, declared the attack on Twitter and assured the audience that the exchange is ready to deal with such attacks. There were two attacks in total, one that took place yesterday and one that took place a few hours ago.
Bitfinex’s attack was also announced on Twitter by the exchange’s official account and retweeted by the CTO, Paolo Ardoino, who assured customers that funds were safe and “high-trading performance” was fully in place once again.
Whether both attacks were related in some sort of way or not is not yet clear. Bitfinex’s CTO shared that these attacks were “highly sophisticated that means deep preparation from the attacker”. The attack caused an outage on Bitfinex that lasted an hour where no trades were placed. The event did not pull back any of the two exchanges, in fact, OKex just announced the release of two new products that will be live tomorrow.
