Bottlepay supports real-time Bitcoin payments on Twitter
U.K.-based payments platform Bottlepay has launched its services, allowing users to send real-time Bitcoin payments on social media app Twitter. The desire is to make it easier for people to send and receive BTC via social media apps.
Twitter meets Bitcoin
According to the firm, Twitter users can send bitcoins by simply using the tweet template “@bottlepay send 1,000 sats to @twitteruser.” Users can execute this command directly from their Twitter app, and the funds would be sent automatically to the recipient.Bottlepay aims to disrupt the global payment space by supporting real-time cross-border transfers of cryptocurrencies and fiat money. The company raised $15 million in a seed funding round towards the end of last month.
A key issue with the Bitcoin network is the high transaction fees, which exploded over the past year. For this reason, most people consider Bitcoin to be an asset rather than a currency. However, Bottlepay is eliminating the issue of high fees by using Lightning Network. It is a second-layer solution that avoids network congestion by conducting transactions off-chain.
Multiple Platforms
The Bottlepay service is available on other social media platforms, including Reddit and Discord. The beta version of the Bottlepay app (available on Android and iOS) reportedly attracted over 20,000 without marketing. It has processed more than $2 million worth of transactions since it was launched on February 10.Bottlepay CEO Mark Webster believes the innovation is much-needed in the payment space. He stated that “Bottlepay’s social Bitcoin payments are a much-needed update on the clunky, outdated payment systems available up until now, and a leap towards smoother, easier transactions.”
The Bottlepay service would make it easier for people to send BTC as payment for services, goods, or gifts.
