Coinbase to launch a Japanese cryptocurrency exchange
Leading US-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is working hard on establishing a presence in Japan, one of Asia's top economies. Due to the strict regulatory requirements in Japan, Coinbase has decided to partner with a local financial giant.Bloomberg, in a report yesterday, said, "Coinbase Global Inc. teamed up with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. to start a cryptocurrency exchange in Japan, which allows account holders at the nation's biggest bank to buy and sell virtual currencies."
This latest development comes after Coinbase gained regulatory approval in Japan earlier this year. The cryptocurrency exchange would be called Coinbase Japan, allowing the company to expand to one of the leading crypto countries.
Coinbase said, "In line with our global strategy, we will aim to be the easiest to use and most trusted exchange in Japan that's fully compliant with local regulations. That's why we are also excited to announce our partnership with MUFG — one of the largest banks in Japan serving 40 million Japanese customers."
MUFG's partnership will be beneficial to Coinbase
The partnership with MUFG, the largest bank in Japan, is expected to yield numerous benefits for the cryptocurrency exchange. Coinbase said its Japanese customers could access fiat on- and off-ramp through MUFG's Quick Deposit services.Coinbase Japan will start by supporting the trading of the five largest crypto assets by trading volume. However, it expects to expand its services to include more cryptocurrencies in the coming months and years.
