Coinbase’s direct listing delayed till April
Coinbase is one of the leading digital currency exchanges that is planning to list on the stock exchange. The crypto exchange has been planning for months, and it is currently valued above $70 billion. However, Coinbase will have to wait for its direct listing as it has some issues to tend to before it trades on the stock exchange.

Coinbase is planning to go public next month after earlier plans for a direct listing this month were affected by other issues. People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg yesterday and asked not to be identified since Coinbase’s move is private.At the time of this report, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is still reviewing Coinbase’s plans for a direct listing, an alternative way of getting listed on the stock exchange asides from the traditional initial public offering (IPO).
Direct listing enables investors to dump their holdings once the company they invested in earlier starts trading on the stock exchange. This means that they don’t have to wait for the expiration of a lockup period. However, in the case of an IPO, the investors have to way for six months before liquidating their positions.
Bloomberg reached out to a representative of Coinbase but didn’t get a comment on the issue. Earlier this week, Coinbase’s backers registered for 114.9 million shares to trade when the company goes public.
The regulatory filing earlier this week revealed that investment firms like Andreessen Horowitz and Union Square Ventures are some of those whose shares will trade once the company goes public. Coinbase’s direct listing would be one of the biggest of its kind the NASDAQ exchange has seen.

The cryptocurrency exchange settled with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Coinbase was accused of engaging in false, misleading or inaccurate reporting and wash trading.
