Crypto exchanges urge Government of India to reduce crypto tax

It is important to note that the Finance Minister of the nation, Nirmala Sitharaman, had recently proposed a tax rate of 30% on these blockchain-based assets. Also, a TDS of 1% on transactions was also proposed. However, crypto exchanges in the nation are not very happy with these changes.
Crypto exchanges plead their case
As per a report from Economic Times, these crypto exchanges have asked the government to decrease the taxation, adding that these terms might "will be difficult to comply with." These firms have also asked the government not to tax the cryptocurrencies, which are received as gifts or given to employees as a part of their remuneration. This is because the individual receiving the tokens is taxed before even booking the profit.As per ET, numerous crypto exchanges met with the members of the finance ministry on Friday to discuss the same. "They are not banning crypto but killing it with tax compliance," a crypto industry official told ET on condition of anonymity. "TDS is technically not feasible as tracking down identity becomes difficult."

Moreover, the report also said that there are many proposals of crypto taxation which lack complete clarity and might cause problems later. For example, the taxation proposal does not present how taxation will be done when payments are made to the nations wherein India has signed the double taxation avoidance deal."The introduction of crypto tax under the income tax regime is nothing less than a knee-jerk reaction to tax a fast-building parallel ecosystem currency," said Saurrav Sood, practice leader, international tax, at SW India.On the other hand, crypto exchanges in India have also faced a huge crackdown from the Indian authorities, as per a recent report from Cryptonary.
