eBay hints at crypto payment option
According to a report published by The Street, eBay Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jamie Iannone said that the new addition would aim to attract younger users. He also added that the company could make an official announcement about the same on its Investor Day, March 10, 2022."On March 10, we're going to go deeper on all of these things, payments, advertising, and our focus categories."Multiple surveys reveal that the younger generation is the most crypto-friendly demographic, which explains eBay's planned crypto shift.
There was considerable anticipation that eBay may begin accepting crypto in 2019, but the company completely dismissed the claims.
In an ongoing trend to make NFT a mainstream subject with major companies, big stars, and media companies, are diving into the space, the e-commerce giant revealed last year that it is exploring ways to get into the NFT industry.
Crypto payment going mainstream
This is not the first time a significant brand announced the crypto payment option in the crypto arena. Last month, Vehicle manufacturer Tesla Inc. also announced the acceptance of Dogecoin as a payment method on its platform. Payment giant PayPal also allows its users to buy, sell, and hold cryptocurrencies on its platform.Solana Labs recently launched a new digital payments protocol Solana Pay that enables merchants to accept crypto payments from their customers.
eBay has not yet disclosed further details about its plans at the time of publication, but they will be more visible once they make an official announcement and start development.
