Ethereum Name Service announced a governance token
The Ethereum Name Service (ENS), an Ethereum-based open-source protocol for domain names, announced on Monday that it will decentralize its governance process through an airdrop of its governance token.
What are the details of the ENS airdrop?
The team outlined the details of the $ENS token in a blog post, explaining why it decided to launch the governance token: "We believe that both ENS and the DAO space have matured enough that now is the time to pass ENS governance over to the community via the creation of a DAO and the $ENS governance token." The project has allocated 25% of the total supply for their Airdrop which will be distributed among .ETH holders (over 137,000 accounts). Another 25% will be distributed to contributors (100s of individuals and groups and hundreds of Discord users), the remaining 50% will go to the DAO community treasury. The Airdrop also offers a 2x multiplier for Ethereum accounts that have set their Primary ENS Name.Once the distribution of ENS tokens is complete, token holders will vote on protocol parameters such as pricing and other important components. The retroactive Airdrop is per account, not per name. This means that each address will be counted for a given day based on whether it has at least one. ETH name. The snapshot of this Airdrop has already been taken and the protocol will allows users to vote on the ENS Constitution, which is a set of community guidelines, for one week starting November 8.
1371 accounts were excluded from the Airdrop
The ENS team became aware of users who were setting up accounts to farm the Airdrop. Since the team felt that it would be unfair to users if a large portion of the supply would fall into the hands of these individuals, the team decided to exclude 1371 accounts from the Airdrop.
