Evmos is finally launching on Mainnet
Evmos is a project that aims to connect the Cosmos and Ethereum ecosystems. While the blockchains in the Cosmos ecosystem are not natively compatible with Ethereum, Evmos aims to connect these chains as it hopes to attract Ethereum users to the Cosmos ecosystem. Similar to blockchains like Avalanche and Fantom, Evmos will allow developers to build applications for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which should make it easier for Ethereum developers to launch projects in the Cosmos ecosystem.The Evmos Mainnet launch was originally scheduled for Feb. 28, but had been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 2, and will take place at 18:00 UTC. The Evmos community, which has been anticipating the launch for months, also learned that the network has increased the number of tokens that will be distributed as part of the "Rektdrop."
What is the Rektdrop?
Evmos had announced an airdrop on December 15, rewarding users of Ethereum and two Cosmos-based blockchains. The total allocation of the airdrop called "Rektdrop" was 100 million tokens, which is 50% of the initial supply making it one of the largest airdrops in recent months. You can find out if you have received tokens by visiting their dashboard.On Ethereum, users who used the most popular Ethereum applications such as Aave, Uniswap, and Compound received tokens, as did users of Osmosis and ATOM delegators. However, it is interesting to note that tokens were also distributed to users who lost money due to high fees, rug pulls, and exploits. The reason for the wide distribution of the airdrop was to attract more users to Evmos, as they hope to attract more participants to the Cosmos ecosystem.
