Former Ripple executive joins Binance US team
Catherine Coley, Ripple’s former head of XRP institutional liquidity, has joined BAM Trading as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). BAM Trading will be responsible for operating Binance America after the recent news about US restrictions that will come into effect in September 2019.
“CryptoColey” has a rather spectacular resume. She started her career in the financial sector, more specifically in the Foreign Exchange markets. First with Morgan Stanley for 5 years, after which she joined Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) as a foreign exchange advisor for a year. She later joined Ripple in 2017 as the head of XRP institutional liquidity, working with custodians, hedge funds, OTC desks and many more to improving XRP accessibility to institutions.
Her move to Binance from Ripple was filled with gratitude and joy from all parties. Ripple’s CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, publicly congratulated her on Twitter and said: “Awesome to see outstanding Ripple alums (like her) going out and impacting the broader crypto ecosystem”. Binance’s CEO, Changpeng Zhao, welcomed her warmly by saying: “We are excited about the quality of leadership that Coley brings to our partnership with BAM. Our community is very lucky to have someone as passionate, versatile, and hardworking as Coley to lead Binance.US. I am confident that with Coley’s leadership and Binance’s leading technology platform, Binance.US will be able to provide valuable services to the U.S. community.”
Her role at BAM Trading, Binance America’s operator, will be mainly focused around expanding the new venture’s reach. However, with her knowledge about cross border payments and more specifically Ripple’s products, it may help expedite Ripple and Binance’s future partnership that is heavily anticipated by the crypto-space.
