FTX lists “Trump” futures contracts for 2020 presidential elections
The United States presidential elections will take place on November 3rd 2020 and the current president, Donald Trump, is running for office once again. He recently faced his impeachment hearing where he was acquitted.
FTX, by far the most “creative” crypto-derivatives exchange when it comes to financial products, has released new futures contracts called “Trump 2020”.
The contract will allow traders to speculate on whether or not Donald Trump will win the 2020 U.S. presidential elections. The contract will settle at $0 if Trump loses and $1 if he gets re-elected. Although the presidential elections will take place will take place on November 3rd 2020, FTX may choose to settle before the results of the elections if all of The New York Times, 538, 270toWin, Fox and CNN “have determined that a set of states electoral votes are projected to go to a specific candidate such that they’ve determined that candidate will receive 270 or more electoral votes”.
Currently, the contracts are trading at $0.62, which signifies that there is a theoretical 62% chance for Trump’s re-election at the current moment according to the market participants.
According to the website, “Trading Trump 2020 contracts is not permitted by residents of the United States, Canada, the European Union, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Singapore, the UAE, Cambodia, and other FTX prohibited jurisdictions”.
