GameStop launches beta version of its NFT Marketplace
American video game, consumer electronics, and gaming merchandise retailer GameStop has launched the highly anticipated NFT marketplace which integrates Ethereum Layer 2 zkRollup protocol designed for powering decentralized exchanges, Loopring (LRC).
GameStop marks a grand entry into NFT world
As per the announcement made by Loopring’s Head of Growth, Adam Browman, the beta version of the NFT marketplace by GameStop had gone live. Browman said that the partnership between the two companies aims to provide "fast, cheap and secure" digital ownership to the masses. The partnership also offers the opportunity for GameStop to cement itself to become the “destination for global digital economies.”Users can now mint NFTs directly on Loopring Layer 2 for fractions of the expensive gas fees that often occur from minting on Layer 1. To ensure that its users "receive the strongest digital property rights," the Loopring zkRollup adopts Ethereum L1's self-custodial security feature.
Beta customers will have access to these high-speed improvements and reduced costs and will be able to make deposits prior to the official full launch of the NFT marketplace, which is expected to happen soon.
GameStop’s partnerships for the project
Following the launch of the Beta version of the marketplace, many NFT lovers are intrigued by the features and are eager to know the launch of the full GameStop NFT Marketplace. As we reported, the company has partnered with Immutable X for the project and announced a $100 million grant for game developers. According to its fourth-quarter filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, it is aiming to bring the NFT marketplace by the end of July.GameStop has hired dozens of people in 2021 Q4 with expertise in technologies like Blockchain gaming. The company expects its NFT marketplace to include “billions of low-cost, in-game assets that can easily be bought and sold,” particularly revolving around digital real estate and in-game skins.
