The president of a blockchain development firm introduced a petition to allow the Bank of France to buy bitcoins. The petition is gaining signatures, and a lawmaker in the country has already signed it.The petition has so far received over 300 signatures and will be active until September 5. Jean-Michel Mis, a member of the French National Assembly, is the lawmaker that signed the petition. His signature is a big boost for this movement as it shows Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have support within the parliament.
Francois Thoorens, president and co-founder of ARK Ecosystem, is the architect of this petition as he wants the country to lead cryptocurrency adoption and development. The petition calls on the Bank of France to actively explore strategies that would allow it to acquire BTC as a treasury asset like Gold.
However, the Bank of France can only do this if the legislature updates the monetary and financial code, allowing the apex bank to carry out such activities. The French Senate has already received the petition and will publish it on its petitions site.
The petition will receive the attention of the Conference Presidents once it attains 100,000 signatures. The Conference Presidents comprises the National Assembly, vice presidents, presidents of permanent commissions and some other prominent members of the National Assembly.
