MLS to launch four NFTs
NFTs have become quite popular in the sporting and entertainment world in recent months. Several teams and sports leagues have launched NFTs to highlight some of the most historic and iconic times in the gamesMajor League Soccer (MLS), the professional body in charge of American soccer, has revealed that it would launch its first NFTs this weekend. The sporting body announced this yesterday, stating that it would launch a collection of four NFT art pieces. These NFTs will be related to two big games coming up this weekend; the Portland Timbers vs. L.A. Galaxy match on Saturday and the Seattle Sounders vs. Atlanta United game on Sunday.
According to the announcement, the four NFTs will be created live by four street artists, each representing an MLS team. The NFT event will be a one-hour battle between the artists, and it will be streamed on Bitski, the site where the nonfungible tokens would be auctioned. The MLS said the artists are Aaron Kai (Galaxy), Kyler Martz (Sounders), Mighty Short (Timbers) and Paper Frank (United).
This is an exciting event as it is the first time the MLS will release a league-approved NFT collection. Chris Schlosser, MLS SVP of media, stated that "The special NFT art collection is the latest evolution of Major League Soccer's commitment to celebrating the creativity in our sport and the permission to connect soccer with progressive and exciting art experiences. The live art battle, plus the modern take on a matchup poster, helps create a cultural moment that celebrates our League and the two great MLS matches this weekend."

NFTs have become quite popular in the sporting world. Asides from soccer, NFTs have gained adoption in basketball, the National Football League (NFL) and hockey. So far, several sports teams and athletes have launched their NFTs, allowing the fans to acquire limited-edition art digital pieces.The MLS said the NFT event this weekend would allow fans to purchase other limited-edition matchup poster NFTs. These pieces have already been custom created by the four artists, and fans can purchase them using Ether (ETH) or credit cards.
