Manchester United signed a multiyear deal with Tezos
The club announced that Tezos branding will appear on players' jerseys when they warm up before matches, starting with Saturday's home game against Southampton. The exact terms of the partnership were not disclosed, although initial reports last week suggested Tezos would pay more than 20 million pounds ($27 million) a year.The club also plans to introduce several fan experiences based on the Tezos blockchain. These could include the minting of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Tezos has already done this when it set up an NFT platform with McLaren Racing last year. The company will also make regular Tez donations to the United Foundation.
Sponsorships with sports teams remain popular
Tezos is also the sponsor of McClaren Racing in three racing categories: F1, Indycar, and Esports. Elsewhere in Europe, the blockchain company recently became a technical partner of Team Vitality, a French Esports organization. The agreement, just like the reported deal between Tezos and Manchester United, gives the Esports company a front-of-shirt presence.Sponsorship deals between sports teams or events and crypto companies have become more common in recent months both crypto exchange FTX and Crypto.com have been active in the past year. In October, Binance, the largest crypto exchange, signed a $30 million sponsorship deal with Italian soccer club Lazio. Watford struck a deal with Stake.com in the English Premier League to have the Dogecoin logo appear on players' jersey sleeves.
