The funding round was co-led by Pantera Capital, Animoca Brands, Solana Ventures, and Everyrealm. Other investors included OKX Blockdream Ventures, Mechanism Capital, Morningstar Ventures, Huobi Ventures, and Shima Capital, and they seem to bet on the success of blockchain gaming."Angelic is building a massively multiplayer metaverse with a deep gameplay layer enriched by a sophisticated backstory. We believe this is the right approach to help bridge the divide between blockchain games and AAA titles." - said Yat Siu, the co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands.The company's best-known game is Angelic, a turn-based strategy combat game on the Solana blockchain. The game allows players to take on the role of a "unique neo-human" who meets and collaborates with companions along the way. Angelic features non-fungible token (NFT) items such as ships and cosmetic items and a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) mechanism that provides players with community governance over the game and intellectual property.
Blockchain gaming is still a hot topic
There has been a steady increase in interest in investing in blockchain gaming in recent months. Pantera Capital, for example, recently stated in an interview that it is concentrating its efforts on three of the hottest crypto segments, according to executives: blockchain gaming, NFTs, and the metaverse. Solana Ventures, Forte, and Griffin Gaming Partners have established a $150 million investment fund for Solana-based games.The success in 2021 allowed for capital inflows and sector expansion. Mechanism Capital launched a $100 million gaming fund just two months ago. Animoca Brands, one of the largest investors in blockchain games, raised nearly $360 million last month at a valuation of $5.4 billion, more than doubling its previous mark of $2.2 billion.
