The layer-2 based Ethereum scaling solution, OMG network, has been acquired by Genesis Block Ventures (GBV). The latter is a full-service investment firm working with Genesis Block HK which operates as an OTC (over-the-counter) trading company.
OMG Network
Originally, OMG Network was set up in 2017 as a subsidiary to SYNQA whose group mission was “democratize finance through technology” and they viewed scalability on major networks on Ethereum as an important problem to tackle. Hence, OMG Network being a layer-2 Ethereum scaling solution.
Transactions are bundled up into blocks by the OMG Network before being sent back to the Ethereum blockchain, this compression increases the throughput of the network and reduces fees.
GBV’s Mission
The reason GBV has acquired the SYNQA subsidiary is to serve and benefit from DeFi projects rushing into layer-2 Ethereum solutions. According to their press release, they already have a number of integrations and partnerships in progress. One of the plans mentioned is the creation of “lending and trading platforms” for DeFi’s massive adoption and progress.
