The growth of NFTs and metaverse has been nothing short of a miracle in the past 1 year. With more and more institutional investors coming into the industry, it is important to note that Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC, and other giants in the food industry have filed for NFTs and metaverse trademarks.
NFT and metaverse trademarks
The popularity of the NFT and metaverse industry has been quite prevalent in recent days. As per a number of tweets from Mike Kondoudis, a USPTO licensed trademark attorney, a number of giants in the food industry filed for trademarks. Firstly, Taco Bell filed for trademark applications for its name and logo for virtual foods and drinks, NFTs and NFT backed multimedia, online stores featuring virtual goods, followed by virtual restaurants with “actual and virtual goods.” Furthermore, Pizza Hut also filed for NFTs and metaverse trademarks for similar items as for Taco Bell.On the other hand, it is also important to note that KFC, the well-known food franchise, has also filed similar trademark applications which include the same stipulations as Taco Bells and other firms. Furthermore, Dunkin' and Hooters, another restaurant firm, has also filed trademark applications for the same on March 25th. All the firms have filed for trademarks on the same date.
Mr. Kondoudis said in a press release:
Clearly, Yum! Brands see the potential of the Metaverse and are preparing their trademarks and brands for the virtual economy that will dominate it.
A virtual world
Recently, Cryptonary noted that Walmart entered the metaverse followed by Meta Platforms, which also filed for 8 trademarks for its logo. Moreover, Samsung also launched its NFT store in Decentraland metaverse.Mr. Kondoudis also added in his statement:
We expect the number of trademark filings for NFTs and virtual products and services from the restaurant and food/beverage sectors to increase over the next twelve months as companies come to appreciate the need for brand protection in the Metaverse.
