BankDhofar joins the RippleNet network
US-based blockchain firm Ripple has announced that BankDhofar is the latest financial institution to join its RippleNet network. The bank would make it easy for their customers to make cross-border transactions in real-time.Ripple announced this in a blog post yesterday, stating that BankDhofar customers can use its mobile app to send payments to IndusInd accounts in real-time. This is the first time funds can be sent from Oman to India in real-time. "As the first bank in the Sultanate of Oman to join our global payments network, RippleNet, BankDhofar will connect with leading Indian private sector bank IndusInd Bank to drive real-time payments into India. This partnership will enable cross-border transactions made via the BankDhofar Mobile Banking App to be processed instantly, reliably, cost-effectively, and with end-to-end visibility anywhere in the world," Ripple added.
The company will be using blockchain technology via its RippleNet solution to facilitate the transactions. According to Ripple, this partnership is a great one because India is one of the leading remittance-receiving countries globally.
Abu Baker Karim Al Balushi, BankDhofar's head of digital banking, said they are excited to join the RippleNet network because it puts the bank in a leading position to offer a range of new products and instant payment service. The bank is planning to activate the service in other countries across the world, he added.
Ripple continues to gain adoption
Ripple continues to gain adoption from banks and financial institutions despite its ongoing case with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Last week, the National Bank of Egypt joined the RippleNet network. The bank will use Ripple's technology to process cross-border payments between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt.The US SEC accused Ripple and its executives of issuing and selling XRP coins as unregistered securities.
