Ross Ulbricht Genesis Collection NFT set for a Dec 2 auction
Ross Ulbricht, the man behind the creation and operation of the darknet website titled "Silk Road," will have an NFT collection on his name soon. The NFT collection will be available for auction on Dec 2 via SuperRare, a platform dedicated to the sale of rare NFT pieces, at the Art Basel Miami.
Ross Ulbricht Genesis Collection features personal work
Ross Ulbricht was the man behind the sale of narcotics on the darknet and was arrested in 2013. The NFT collection is the only one to feature his personal work. As per the Fad Magazine, the minting will begin on Dec 2 at "NFT now x Christie's Art Basel 2021 gallery, The Gateway."Ross Ulbricht was never convicted for homicide but will have to spend his life in prison for soliciting narcotics via his website. He spent his 9th year without parole on Oct 1, 2021.
The NFT collection is curated by Entoptic and will consist of a total of "10 artworks Ross Ulbricht, from early childhood to teen to prisoner." Furthermore, an original animation by Levitate voiced by Ross Ulbricht himself will also be included in the sale.
A unique aspect of the NFT is that it is made on the open-source protocol KSPEC. The protocol allows owners to receive the NFT in full quality and remain connected with the creator to update the token during its lifetime.
Establishment of donor fund
The establishment of a donor fund called Art4Giving is also a part of this auction. A part of proceeds from the auction will be reserved for funding this new donor fund."With proceeds from this NFT, we are starting a donor-advised fund called Art4Giving, dedicated to relieving the suffering of the incarcerated and their families. One project I envision is to help kids travel to visit their moms and dads in prison," said Ross Ulbricht to FAD Magazine.Entoptic claims this NFT to be a way for Ross to breach the walls of the prison and spread his experience outside the bars. On the other hand, Ross claims that the release of the NFT is his way of "looking for meaning and purpose."
