Shopify opens up its platform to NFTs
Shopify's president Harley Finkelstein said yesterday that the e-commerce giant had already opened its doors to nonfungible tokens (NFTs.) in a pair of tweets yesterday, the head of the e-commerce platform said it is directly supporting the sale for its merchants. However, the scope of the offering remains limited at the moment.Finkelstein said the goal is to make it easier for merchants to sell NFTs directly through their stores. The platform's first NFT to be on sale on the platform will be the upcoming NFT from the Chicago Bulls basketball team.
The NBA franchise is dropping three NFT "rings" of different rarities over the next six days, starting today. The rings represent each of their six titles.

The president stated that this latest development would empower merchants to make the best of the NFT mania. Finkelstein said, "Before Shopify offered this capability, merchants would have to sell through a 3rd party marketplace aka less control of the sale and customer relationship. Once again, we are putting the power back into the hands of merchants and meeting customers how and where they want to buy."At the moment, Finkelstein admitted that the NFT feature is available to only a select few Shopify customers. NFTs have become popular in recent months, with the sale of the Beeple NFT for $69.3 million still fresh in people's memory. Since then, several sports teams, franchises, leagues, artists and celebrities have launched their NFTs in a bid to make money from the digital versions of their work.
