Arbitrum goes down
Arbitrum is currently back up and running, but the team reported several outages in the late hours of January 9. The timing of the tweets indicates that the network was down for about seven hours, but it could have been longer. At that time, the Offchain Labs platform reported some issues with the sequencer that prevented transactions from being processed during that period.On January 10, Arbitrum published a post mortem explaining what had led to the brief outage. The main problem was a hardware failure in its main sequencer node. The backup sequencer redundancies that would generally take control also failed due to an ongoing software update. The network is designed to fall back to layer- one Ethereum to process transactions in the event of problems with its sequencer. However, it said the team made efforts to ensure the sequencer confirmed all transactions before going offline.
It will work on the decentralization of the network
The team concluded that it is working to further decentralize the network with a "twofold path of minimizing Sequencer downtime" implemented in the coming weeks and months. Arbitrum experienced a similar sequencer outage in mid-September when a bug caused the system to get stuck after executing a large batch of transactions within a short period.Arbitrum is an Ethereum Layer 2 network that uses Optimistic Rollups to batch transactions faster and cheaper processing. It was launched in early September as Arbitrum One after a $120 million funding round. Arbitrum is currently the most popular layer-two network with a TVL of $1.8B.
