To celebrate the donations, the government planned an airdrop which is now canceled as per the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov.
Ukraine cancels airdrop
According to the previous statement from the Ukrainian government, an airdrop for the donors was confirmed, which meant that the nation would send the donors cryptocurrencies as rewards for their services. A snapshot of the same was supposed to be taken and shared by 6 pm Kyiv time (11 am EST) on March 3.However, a recent tweet from the President of Ukraine also confirmed that the nation would not be hosting the airdrop. The full statement from Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said that “after careful consideration, we decided to cancel the airdrop. Every day there are more and more people willing to help Ukraine to fight back the aggression. Instead, we will announce NFTs to support Ukrainian Armed Forces soon. We DO NOT HAVE any plans to issue any fungible tokens.”
Fedorov confirmed that the nation would be releasing an NFT collection to honor and support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was not revealed as to what the type and nature of these NFTs will be.
Ukraine WORLD airdrop turned out to be fake
Despite reports from several crypto outlets that the crypto airdrop in Ukraine took place earlier, the Ukrainian government's tweet indicates that it was a fake airdrop. While the tokens appear to have been sent from the official Ukrainian Ethereum wallet, this was actually a ruse. Peckshield pointed out flaws in the airdrop, highlighting why these tokens do not appear genuine.This led blockchain explorer Etherscan to label the tokens from WORLD as "misleading," indicating that the tokens could be spam or phishing. The fake token saw significant trading volume on decentralized exchanges. It was already traded on Uniswap with a trading volume of over $500,000.
