Walmart, an American multinational retail corporation that operates a chain of hypermarkets, is building its own metaverse, a report from CNBC claims. The truth behind the matter is yet to be confirmed by the firm, but the giant has filed for several trademarks last month, which point to its future plans.

Walmart is building a metaverse that will include its own cryptocurrency and is also looking to launch an NFT or non-fungible token collection. The report claims that the firm has filed for new trademarks "late last month that indicates its intent to make and sell virtual goods, including electronics, home decorations, toys, sporting goods, and personal care products."As per the data from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the trademarks were filed on Dec 30, and Walmart has also included in a separate filing that it would offer users a digital currency and access to NFTs.

CNBC says that a total of 7 applications have been filed by Walmart, which point towards this development. The firm said that they are "continuously exploring how emerging technologies may shape future shopping experiences.""We are testing new ideas all the time. Some ideas become products or services that make it to customers. And some we test, iterate, and learn from," Walmart added.On the other hand, Walmart is not the firm planning to launch a cryptocurrency and metaverse. Nike also had plans to enter the NFT industry with the acquisition of NFT Studio RTFKT. Furthermore, Adidas has also confirmed its involvement with crypto-related projects and has partnered with Bored Ape Yacht Club, Gmoney, and PUNKS Comic.
