Amazon is not in a hurry to add crypto payments
CEO Andy Jassy indicated on CNBC Thursday morning that the e-commerce and cloud giant is unlikely to include crypto as a payment option for its retail division.
Amazon may sell NFTs in the future
Although Amazon looks to be uninterested in cryptocurrencies, its CEO has suggested that non-fungible tokens (NFTs) may be sold on its e-commerce platform in the future. Jassy also predicted that NFTs and cryptocurrency would gain popularity over time, but he noted that he did not personally own NFTs or Bitcoin.Jassy issued his first annual shareholder letter since taking over as CEO from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos last year on Thursday. The letter includes no mention of bitcoin, cryptocurrencies, or non-financial tokens.
The company is still interested in blockchain technology
Amazon Web Services, the company's cloud-computing unit, offers an Amazon Managed Blockchain service, which supports Hyperledger Fabric and Ethereum and appears to be aimed at businesses who wish to incorporate blockchain technology into their operations.Last year, Amazon appeared to be more interested in adding crypto payments. It sought a digital currency and blockchain expert to join its payments team to assist develop Amazon's "strategy and product roadmap" around the technology.
