Axie Infinity aims to revolutionize its failing token and NFT economy
Axie Infinity, one of the most popular blockchain-based games that follows a play-2-earn model, is changing things around to bring back some life in its failing governance token, which has retraced nearly 58.57% from its all-time high. Moreover, the developers are working on new releases for the platform, which might improve the game's NFT economy.
Axie Infinity plans big changes
Axie Infinity is an Ethereum-based NFT game whose popularity knew no bounds in 2021. However, the platform hasn't performed very well in terms of value recently. Therefore, the development team, Sky Mavis, has announced some major changes in the upcoming 20th session of the game.The game will now reward a much lower chunk of Smooth Love Potion (SLP) tokens and focus on rewarding the online arena battles. This is because "inflation of SLP has been very high, with around 4x more SLP being created (supplied) per day than burned (demanded) through breeding," said the report from Sky Mavis.
The Axie Infinity is also working on another burn mechanism that will reduce the inflation of SLP tokens and cause a rise in the price of AXS and SLP. The report revealed that 40% of SLP comes from the Adventure Mode and 44% from the PVP or Player vs. Player Mode. The rewards from the former will be drastically reduced. Moreover, the rewards from Daily Quests are also being reduced.
PVP changes
The PVP mode is also bringing up changes with it. The report said that since Axie Infinity is on the verge of economic collapse, the development team will expand "the number of leaderboard slots to 300,000" and increase "the amount of AXS we're giving out to 117,676." The official report also said:"This will supercharge the competitive Axie scene and create more demand for quality Axie teams in the ecosystem. This equates to a six million USD equivalent prize pool for Season 20!"
