Sotheby's announced the news in a tweet
Michael Bouhanna, the Co-Head of Digital Art at Sotheby's, tweeted a teaser announcing that at least one Bored Ape will be auctioned at Sotheby's from September 2 to 9, along with its dog companion from the project Bored Ape Kennel Club.The teaser shows a golden Bored Ape along with a golden dog in a 3D animation. Collectors on Twitter already claim to have figured out which wallet is from Sotheby's. There are more than 200 apes and dogs in the wallet, pointed to by collectors. An official press release with more details has not yet been released by Sotheby's.
Not the first auction house to welcome the Bored Ape Yacht Club
Christie's was one step ahead of Sotheby's and has already announced that it will auction Bored Apes along with Meebits and CryptoPunks. They are scheduled to be sold at the end of September at the auction house in Hong Kong. Since the Apes and Meebits NFTs are still relatively new, Christie's labeled them as "estimate unknown."The highest sale of a Bored Ape is a trippy cyborg. The NFT sold this Thursday for 500 ETH ($1,619,110). The dogs from the Bored Ape Kennel club are not as expensive as the apes, but a reason for this is that the dogs were an airdrop to ape holders and also have less utility. The highest dog sale was a golden dog for 75 ETH ($242,826).
