NFTs are the hottest trend in the blockchain sector at the moment, and more media companies are entering the market. Forbes has made its entrance by selling an NFT of its Winklevoss issue cover for over $300k.
Forbes sell the Winklevoss NFT
Leading business magazine Forbes announced that it had sold its first NFT piece. The piece is its latest issue cover featuring the Winklevoss twins, who are popular within the cryptocurrency space.According to the post, Forbes sold the NFT issue cover for $333,333 to a bidder called Mondoir. The NFT titled "Merchants of the Metaverse" features Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. Forbes hosted the NFT auction on Nifty Gateway, and it lasted for 24 hours.
The magazine added that it intends to donate the proceeds to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and the International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF). Forbes COO Randall Lane stated that "We like to say our covers of the world's billionaires and next-generation entrepreneurs are the most-valuable real-estate in media for their ability to capture the people who are shaping our world in real-time. As we watch the rapid rise of cryptocurrency and it's mainstreaming across the world, we're capturing a unique moment in time and also playing a role ourselves."
The Winklevoss twins are popular within the cryptocurrency space. They were one of the earliest Bitcoin investors and are reported to own over 70,000 bitcoins. The twins also founded the Gemini cryptocurrency exchange and were recently named Forbes list billionaires after raking in $3 billion each.
Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss bought the Nifty Gateway in 2019. The Forbes issue covered the story of the two brothers and their history within the tech sector.
NFTs continue their ascension
Cryptocurrency investor and entrepreneur Mike Novogratz stated that we are at the early stages of NFT, and they are here to stay. That seems to be the case as more media companies and auction houses are issuing and selling NFTs.Christie's announced yesterday that it would feature nine rare CryptoPunks in its upcoming sales event. This comes after it auctioned and sold the Beeple NFT for nearly $70 million.
